Delete your account
You can delete your Frozen Chat account at any time. It takes effect immediately and can't be undone.
Last updated: 8 October 2026
In the app
- Open Frozen Chat on your phone.
- Go to Settings → Account → Delete account.
- Read the warning and tap Delete forever.
The app confirms that it is really you (it signs in again in the background), the server deletes your account, and every one of your devices is signed out and erased.
If your version of the app doesn't show Delete account yet (for example on Android or Frozen Chat Web), update the app, or ask us as described below.
By request
If you can't use the app, ask us to delete the account:
- Send a message to @frozenchat in the app saying “Delete my account”. This is the quickest way, because it proves the request comes from the account; or
- E-mail [email protected] with the subject “Delete my account” and your username.
Because we don't know who owns a username, we will ask you to confirm from inside the app before we delete anything (for example by sending us a code from the account). If you have lost every device and your recovery words, nobody can prove ownership of the account; it then simply stays unused. We delete confirmed accounts within 7 days and reply when it is done.
What is deleted
| Data | When |
|---|---|
| Account record, username (freed for others), public keys, signed device list, encrypted profile | Immediately |
| All devices, login tokens and push tokens | Immediately; every device is signed out |
| Licence, including any remaining paid time | Immediately |
| Encrypted messages waiting for delivery to you | Immediately |
| Encrypted attachments you uploaded | Immediately, or on the next storage clean-up if the storage is briefly unavailable |
| Encrypted backups in our storage | Immediately |
| Messages and data on your own devices | Erased by the app on the device that deleted the account; other devices are signed out and erase on their next start |
| Encrypted service backups | Overwritten automatically |
What is not deleted
- Messages you already sent stay on the devices of the people you sent them to. We can't reach their devices.
- Group history already delivered to other members stays with them. You leave every group.
- Key transparency: the public log gets a tombstone entry for your username and account. The log contains only hashed commitments, never your username in readable form.
- Shop orders are not linked to accounts (except an “upgrade or extend” order, whose link is removed with the account). Order records without personal data are kept for our accounting.
- Your conversations with our support (e-mail, website chat) follow their own retention described in the privacy policy.
Before you delete
- Deleting is permanent: your username, contacts and paid time can't be restored, even by us.
- To keep your chats, make a backup to your own folder first (Settings → Chats → Backups).
- Just want to remove one phone or browser? Unlink it instead in Settings → Devices; your account stays.
